Surpassing greatness of knowing Christ

What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ (Philippians 3:8)

※ 해설

The apostle Paul knew that the most valuable thing in our lives is to know Christ Jesus. Indeed, the knowledge and belief in his words are eternal even after death while all worldly things become extinct. Wealth, prosperity, and fame may function as obstacles for our innocent lives of belief. That is why Paul described them as rubbish.

사도 바울은 인생에서 가장 가치 있는 것은 예수 그리스도를 아는 것이라는 사실을 알았습니다. 실로 하나님의 말씀에 대한 지식과 믿음은 죽음 이후에도 영원하지만 모든 세속적인 것들은 결국 소멸하고 맙니다. 부귀 영화와 명예는 우리의 순결한 믿음 생활을 방해할 수도 있습니다. 그래서 바울은 그러한 것들을 모두 배설물로 여긴다고 말했던 것입니다.
